[Risolto] Porting SO, programmi e dati su nuovo pc

Ciao a tutti.
In vista di una possibile crisi dell' HD su macchina Dell Inspiron con F26, voglio fare un piano di cui in oggetto.
In pratica l'idea sarebbe:
- acquisto una nuova Linux box
- partiziono l'HD nuovo con gparted live come l'HD vecchio (/boot, /, /home, /part grossa dati, /part windows)
- avendo le immagini Clonezzilla del vecchio HD le copio sulle nuove partizioni
Domanda:
- mi ritroveri cosi' facendo  il pc nuovo con lo stesso sw del vecchio e funzionante?
- oppure gli hw differenti e relativi drivers farebbero un patatrac?

Propenderei per la seconda opzione, un porting così diretto da macchine "datate" in genere non è mai indolore.


C'è però un'altra strada che tu non hai considerato per ridare nuova vita al tuo portatile che è quella di sostituire lo HD con uno SSD.

La precondizione però è che la macchina supporti lo SATA III altrimenti tutto è vano, il disco che hai pontato è un SATA II messo in commercio nel 2010 quindi la tua macchina dovrebbe avere 5/6 anni matura ma non obsoleta.

Invece di dismetterli, ho aggiornato tutti i miei portatili più o meno vecchi con SSD Samsung 850 EVO e sono letteralmente rinati.

Purtroppo non fornisci molte indicazioni sulla macchina in tuo possesso comunque in genere i DELL sono delle ottime macchine (ne ho avuti 3) per cui, sempre che ci sia il supporto SATAIII, potrebbe valere la pena aggiornarla.

Con circa 140€ ti porti a casa un 850EVO da 500GB, gli SSD moderni sono straaffidabili, garantiti 5anni o 150TB (modello 1TB), io dopo circa un anno sono a malapena arrivato a 3,5TB senza la ben che minima ottimizzazione.

effettivamente la sostituzione dell 'HD l'avevo pensata, pero' mi spaventa l'intervento di aprire la macchina (anche se Dell nella documentazione ti da' una guida per operare sull'hw).
Il pc e' un Dell Inspiron N5040 pagato 350 Euro con 320 GB HD e 3GB Ram. Processore intel P6200 a due CPU 64bit senza il 'bit' di virtualizzazione (drawback che ti permette di usare solo Virtualbox con una sola cpu). Allego videata lshw. short e long
E' quindi compatibile con la SATA III ? e vale la pena  secondo te investire 140 Euro sul cambio HD e cosa dici, lo si fa facilmente 'in casa' col cacciavite?

Direi che possiamo escludere che abbia il SATAIII

Qui https://ark.intel.com/products/42907/Intel-3400-Chipset dicono che il chipset 3400 è uscito nel terzi trimestre del 2009 mentre le specifiche SATA III https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_ATA sono state rilasciate nel marzo 2009.
Anche il fatto che nella documentazione non si citi il tipo di porta sata fa pensare che si riferisca al II.

Decisamente per una macchina pagata 350€ spenderne 150€ per uno SSD pure strozzato non vale proprio la pena.

Anche la CPU è alquanto obsoleta, è poco più veloce di un Atom ma consuma 7 volte di più.

Grazie Moreno dell'analisi che hai svolto.
Passero' quindi ad un nuovo pc vergine di SO. Pero' non metto risolto perche' torniamo al punto del porting: copiare le immagini del vecchio HD su un nuovo HD in un nuovo pc ha senso?
Che dicono i ns fedoriani?

Direi che sono oltremodo pessimista, se vuoi un tentativo puoi anche farlo ma dubito serva a qualche cosa.
Potresti persino avere problemi al boot con i casini fra EFI UEFI secure boot etc. etc.


Direi macchina nuova, installazione nuova, se proprio proprio puoi fare il backup della \home

Concordo con Moreno. Per il futuro consiglio workstation/pc rigenerate/ricondizionate se si vuole spendere poco (il mio fisso è una Thinkstation E32 con uno Xeon E3-1230v3 4C/8T, SSD e 16 GB di RAM ECC, comprato un paio di mesi fa per 350 euro).

Se non hai driver strani di terze parti, copiare l'immagine dovrebbe bastare. Tieni conto che il dispositivo o la partizione di destinazione devono essere più grandi di quella di partenza (puoi ovviare in parte al problema restringendo la partizione prima di spostarla).

Scusa Frafra ma non ho capito bene: dici che si puo' copiare l'immagine , ma contemporaneamente concordi con Moreno che vedeva grossi problemi a farlo.
Ti riferisci forse solo al copiare la /home? In realta' io pensavo di copiare anche la /boot e la  /root e la partizione windows sul nuovo disco - nuovo pc , dopo aver creato le opportune analoghe (piu grandi) partizioni target. Volevo cioe' 'clonare' il vecchio pc sul nuovo, anche se mi rendo conto che una clonazione tra due macchine e' garantita solo a parita' di hw. Mi spieghi meglio il tuo pensiero?

Ripeto, a meno che tu non abbia una configurazione strana non ci sono problemi. Se sposti altro oltre la home ti complichi la vita, e a meno che tu non abbia dimestichezza con queste procedure o tempo da impiegare per fare prove/esperimenti te lo sconsiglio. Reinstallare il sistema e spostare i dati è la via più facile.
