Non parte X con driver nVidia

Giorni fa ho aggiornato il kernel e i driver nVidia di un server/computer desktop che non spegnevo da più di due mesi. Aimè sono incappato nel famoso bug sul modulo nVidia per il kernel, pertanto non potevo utilizzare X. Ho atteso vari giorni finchè non è uscita la nuova patch, tuttavia dopo smanettamenti vari, pulizie di kernel e driver vecchi, la situazione non è cambiata.

Normalmente, quando si avvia X, KDM effettua da solo il login nell’utente predefinito. Siccome la maggior parte del tempo opero su questo computer in remoto via SSH, c’è il modo di capire se la sessione X è stata correttamente avviata?

(supponendo che usi Gnome)
