Buongiorno a tutti.
anche con Fedora 20 ho gli stessi problemi:
non riesco a registrare i video.
da terminale da il seguente errore:

ho provato ora il programma menzionato. quando vado a registrae un video, si blocca e crasha.
amen, butterò nel cestino questa webcam. l’unica cosa strana è che funzionava bene con fedora 16 (o 17)

Oltre al suggerimento di tempus, aggiungo di provare a variare il parametro “Uscita della webcam” nella sezione “Video e file” di guvcview: a volte bisogna cercare l’impostazione più adatta al proprio dispositivo. Ti potrebbe aiutare l’output di:

$ v4l2-ctl --all

Magari faccelo vedere. Il comando si trova nel pacchetto v4l-utils.

uvcvideo e cheese continuano a bloccarsi quando cerco di fare un video…

naturalmente la registrazione è muta ( noaudio ), fermi la registazione con [ctrl] + [c]
se è a posto, proverei a modificare o disattivare l’audio della web-cam attraverso pulseaudio
usando un microfono esterno.

allora. innanzitutto scusate il ritardo, ma ho avuto parecchio da fare.
mi sono accorto che nel messaggio che ho scritto in precedenza #7
il programma guvcview era impostato (di default) con la API PORTAUDIO.
ho selezionato la API PULSEAUDIO.
pare funzionare la registrazione ma questo solo perché è impostato come dispositivo di ingresso: “Audio interno Stereo analogico” (e difatti non registra l’audio)
questa webcam ha anche il microfono, quindi quando imposto come dispositivo di ingresso il mcrofono giusto: “LifeCam Cinema Mono analogico”
avvio la registrazione (tutto OK) ma nel momento che vado a fermarla si blocca tutto (devo forzare la chiusura). da terminale succede questo:

mi scordavo di menzionare che il video viene registrato correttamente, ma ovviamente senza audio

ho trovato in un cassetto un vecchissimo (e pessimo) microfono dimenticato nel tempo. la qualità è davvero pessima, ma ho voluto lo stesso fare una prova.
l’ho inserito ne jack mi sono assicurato dalle impostazioni audio di sistema che venisse riconosciuto e impostato di default.
poi ho aperto Cheese e provato a fare una registrazione. come per magia tutto funziona.
quindi abbiamo appurato che il problema è proprio il microfono integrato della webcam.
c’è qualche remota possibilità che torni a funzionare? c’è qualche impostazione dove poter interagire per cercare di capire il problema e risolverlo?

A questo punto io provarei a variare (sempre con guvcview) il formato dell’uscita video/audio privilegiando i formati non compressi e riducendo al minimo possibile le frequenze di frame-rate e campionamento (anziché lasciare le opzioni di default).

il quirk come gia mi è stato suggerito da Tempus nel post #5 è stato effettuato.
con le sopra descritte impostazioni, nonostante non crasha, i video vengono registrati senza audio.
ho un notebook con una porta USB 3.0 e Fedora 19 installata. provo a inserire la webcam in questione sulla suddetta porta e verificarne il comportamento.
invece la macchina della quale non vuol saperne di funzionare correttamente è un preassemblato:
DELL XPS 420 dove gira una Fedora 20
ha 10 porte USB 2.0:
2 frontali, 6 posteriori e 2 interne (secondo quello che dicono http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/xpsdt_420 specifiche)

Le impostazioni sembrano ragionevoli, rispetto alle ipotesi fatte. Provo a riassumere la vicenda: hai 2 pc, un portatile con usb3 e un fisso con usb2. Col quirk applicato sul portatile sei riuscito a ottenere un video muto con guvcview (e mi pare anche con cheese), sul fisso niente perché va in crash. E’ chiaro che il problema è il microfono incorporato nella webcam, che a quando pare non vuol funzionare con pulseaudio (o meglio, in contemporanea con l’acquisizione video).
A questo punto (ma sto arrivando alla frutta) potresti provare a modificare le impostazioni di input dell’audio con l’utility pavucontrol: per http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=112188 sembra aver funzionato con questo dispositivo.

il quirk è stato applicato sul fisso. come anche tutte le prove fatte fin’ora. appena applicato, ha smesso di crashare anche se registra senza audio (parliamo sempre del fisso)

sono assolutamente d’accordo con te. sospetto che la banda usb gli vada troppo ristretta per far funzionare tutt’è 2 (audio + video) ecco perché vorrei provare la webcam sul portatile, quest’ultima ha una presa USB 3.0. (a differenza del fisso un po’ vecchiotto che ha solo prese USB 2.0) ovviamente non me ne faccio nulla della webcam sul portatile visto che ne ha già una integrata (e che funziona correttamente) era solo per cercare di circoscrivere il problema.

Causa lavoro non ho avuto modo di fare quel esperimento, che rimanderò a questo week-end.

resuscito questo post solo per dire che oggi, così… giusto perché non avevo nulla da fare, senza che io abbia fatto nulla, ma proprio nulla di particolare in tutto questo periodo, se non che aggiornare settimanalmente il sistema
inserendo il cavetto usb della webcam in una porta, tutto è ripreso a funzionare correttamente. mi chiedo solo che diavolo è successo e cosa c’era che non andava… mah! mistero!
